Top 5 Songs From Taylor Swift’s Album, ‘Lover’
Taylor Swift’s 7th studio album, “Lover,” has been out for a few weeks now and has given people plenty of time to listen to it and decide which song is their favorite. This will forever be a fight amongst stan Twitter. This is the first album that Swift has the rights and masters to after her fight with her old label and Scott Borchetta, so it is an important album for her. It broke records and each song charted on the Billboard 100. “Lover”: is the highest selling album of 2019, so far.
Honestly, all of Swift’s music is amazing and it is hard to pick one favorite song. We are breaking down the top 5 songs from “Lover,” which almost feels impossible.
Out of 18 tracks, we are picking our top 5. Sorry to the other 13 masterpieces. We love you all.
Taylor Swift’s Album Lover Song #5 – “Cornelia Street”
One of the sadder songs of her album, “Cornelia Street” should be the next single. Just imagine the music video for this song.
Swift used to rent an apartment on Cornelia Street in New York. It sounds like her and Joe spent a lot of time there together. The song is about reliving those memories and that this love is grand that if they ever broke up, she couldn’t even walk down that street again because too many memories would appear. The song tells a story in itself.
Taylor Swift’s Album Lovers Song #4 – “Paper Rings”
This song sounds like a song from the 90s / early 00’s and I can’t place my finger on it, but it brings back so much nostalgia. It is an upbeat pop song, that is a different sound for Swift, but it works. It is one of the most talked about tracks on the album.
“Paper Rings” talks about a relationship between two people and it doesn’t matter what anyone says or what possessions they have as long as they are together.
Sure, what girl doesn’t love shiny jewelry, but if you are truly in love you won’t care about the size, shine, or price of the ring. You could make a ring out of paper and still be happy with your loved one.
#3 – “The Man”
Swift has been criticized in the media about writing songs about break-ups, exes, love, etc., but if a man did that they would be praised. She is scrutinized for being in a good amount of relationships, but if the situation was reversed, the man would be praised.
This is a perfect song for 2019. Women are finding and fighting for a place in this world, to be equal and not to be criticized.
#2 – “Lover”
The title track talks about her 3+ year relationship with boyfriend, actor Joe Alwyn. How she wants all of his summers. Not just the past 3 years. I don’t care what anyone says, this is Swift’s most romantic song ever. You can tell she has found her forever. The bridge of the song even alludes to wedding vows, which made some believe that she may already be engaged or married. Either way, “Lover” will be everyone’s wedding song until something better comes along (which may be never).
#1 – “Soon You’ll Get Better” ft. The Dixie Chicks
This song is rumored to be about her mother, Andrea’s battle with breast cancer. In Swift’s Elle essay on 30 Lessons I Learned Before Turning 30, she stated that Andrea’s cancer had returned.
This song is very relatable to anyone who has lost a loved one or is going through a sickness with a loved one. Every time I listen to it, I break down crying. “Soon You’ll Get Better” is Swift’s saddest song ever. I know the track 5 theory is supposed to be her saddest songs, but this takes first prize.
The Dixie Chicks compliment the song perfectly. You mostly hear them in the background, almost acting as a motherly figure. The collaboration doesn’t take away from the meaning and emotion of the song.
