Top 5 Best “Game Of Thrones” Moments
‘Game of Thrones’ may be one of the best shows ever made. Besides its beautiful cinematography and excellent acting, the show’s storytelling is simply amazing. In a show known for its shocking moments, it’s hard to pick just 5, but here they are, some of the most dramatic and heart-rending moments ever filmed.
5 – Ned Stark Loses His Head
Season 1: “Baelor”
This is the moment when we all sat up and started paying attention, our mouths hanging open in shock. This is the moment where ‘Game of Thrones’ becomes ‘Game of Thrones.’ At the end of the first season, Ned Stark, the character we all thought was at the center of the entire narrative, is executed. This is the moment we all realized this was not just some fantasy show, but something more, and that not a single one of our beloved characters was safe.
4 – The Mother of Dragons Gets her Army
Season 3: “And Now His Watch is Ended”
It’s a perfectly executed scene, where we begin to realize how clever and smart Queen Daenarys really is. In this sequence, Daenarys pretends not to speak the language of the slave masters, putting up with a constant barrage of insults, revealing herself at the crucial moment, her young dragon burning the slave master alive. She then sets the Unsullied army free, knowing they will fight for her anyway. Brilliant.
3 – Trial by Combat
Season 4: “The Mountain and the Viper”
Oberyn Martell bests the Mountain in close combat, a feat not thought possible, by using his agile fighting style, but he is then so focused on getting the Mountain to confess his crimes that he waits too long to deliver the killing blow… Oh, man. The result is a moment that is brutal and memorable, and happens so quickly we can’t believe it. There are videos on YouTube of people watching this scene for the first time, and it’s just incredible to watch their reactions. Like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vob2_MSpXQc
2 – Hold The Door
Season 6: “The Door”
It is truly heart-breaking when we finally learn the tragic truth of Hodor’s life and why he has the mental deficiencies he does. He was always destined to “hold the door,” so much so that he became incapable of saying anything other than a nonsense version of the phrase. By holding the door against the horde of the undead, Bran is able to escape, but Hodor becomes yet another innocent sacrificed to protect a member of the nobility.
1 – The Red Wedding
Season 3: “The Rains of Castamere”
In a single brutal evening of feasting, the King in the North and his entire court, not to mention his pregnant wife and his mother, are slain in one of the bloodiest and certainly one of the most shocking moments in the entire show. All hope of the Starks bringing peace to Westeros is dashed in a moment and we are left wondering if anyone with even a shred of honor is capable of surviving in such a world.
