Top 5 biggest hit songs from One Direction
One Direction celebrated their 10th anniversary on July 23rd and what better way to celebrate their anniversary than to look back on their top 5 biggest hits. Of course this list could go on and on, but we will just list 5 for now.
Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, and Liam Payne made up the boy band One Direction. After Malik’s departure in 2015, the band stayed together for one more album before going on what was supposed to be an 18-month hiatus. 5 years later, the men have all embarked on very successful solo careers.
They were the biggest boyband of the 2010’s and had some of the biggest chart-topping hits of the decade. Here are the top 5 One Direction biggest hits.
“What Makes You Beautiful”
The song that started it all! “What Makes You Beautiful” was their debut and lead single on their first album Up All Night. The song was extremely successful, reaching number one in several countries. It is now certified quadruple platinum in the US. “What Makes You Beautiful” has won several awards. The music video has accumulated over 1 billion, yes BILLION, views. Admit it, we were all jealous of the girl who Harry sang to on the beach.
“Little Things”
Released in 2012 off the album, Take Me Home, “Little Things” was actually written by Ed Sheeran. The music video was shot in black and white and filmed in one day. The song was nominated for many awards. It is about the best things about someone, the little things you wouldn’t expect, like the ‘crinkles by your eyes’ or ‘that you talk in your sleep.’ The song became the group’s second UK number one single and charted in the top forty in numerous countries.
“Story of My Life”
Off of what might be the band’s best album, “Story of My Life” was the second single off of Midnight Memories and was released in 2013. The song is about a tumultuous relationship leading to heartbreak. The song charted high in numerous countries. The music video depicted the boys recreating childhood memories with their families. “Story of My Life” has become the group’s second highest single after “What Makes You Beautiful.”
“Best Song Ever”
Released in 2013 as the lead single from the album Midnight Memories, “Best Song Ever,” debuted at number two in the UK and US, making it the band’s highest charting single in the US to date. The music video was written by James Corden, who is a great friend of the band. It broke the Vevo 24-hour record with 12.3 million views. You can tell the boyos truly had fun making this video. The video took home British Video at the 2014 Brits Awards.
“Perfect”
This song was released in 2015 after Zayn left the group off the album Made In The A.M. “Perfect” reached the top 10 in several countries. The song was thought to be a retort to Taylor Swift’s song “Style.” With the lyric, ‘If you like camera’s flashing everytime we go out and if you’re looking for someone to write your break-up songs about, baby we’re perfect’ is thought to be about Swift. The video was shot in black and white with the boys in their hotel room during tour and they never looked better.
