The Christmas season is in full swing and that means we are listening to Christmas music non-stop! Everyone knows the classics, like “Frosty the Snowman” and originals that became mega hits (we’re looking at you Mariah Carey), but 2019 was a great year for original Christmas songs and the year is not over yet.
Just this year, many singers dropped Christmas songs/ albums and we are already adding them to our playlists, like they are part of the family. Here are the top 5 Christmas songs released in 2019 that you should be listening to right now.
2019 Christmas Songs – All I Want for Christmas is Love – Julianne Hough and Jordan Fisher
Julianne Hough and Jordan Fisher met on his season of “Dancing with the Stars” and worked together on the set of “Grease! Live” and became friends. The triple threats joined forces for a Christmas song that we didn’t know we needed until we heard it. They performed the song on the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting on December 4th.
Hough recently got back into the world of singing when she released her song, “Transform” on the “America’s Got Talent” finale. Fisher was just announced as the newest Evan Hansen in Dear Evan Hansen on Broadway, starting in January.
The song is about not caring about the materialistic things at Christmas and only wanting love and to be with the ones you love.
2019 Christmas Songs – Make it to Christmas – Alessia Cara
This is a different take on a Christmas tune. If you really listen to the lyrics, it is actually sad. The song is about a relationship not lasting but wanting to make it to Christmas because it’s her favorite day of the year. The Canadian sings, “Break my heart on Boxing Day,” which is celebrated on December 26th in Canada. She’s ok with breaking up after Christmas but for one day, just stay together. The tune, music, and Alessia’s voice make the song sound more cheerful than the message.
Cara recently released her EP, “This Summer” while on tour with Shawn Mendes. We hope more Christmas tunes come from the ‘Rootin’ For You’ singer soon.
2019 Christmas Songs – All I Want (For Christmas) – Liam Payne
No, it’s not Mariah Carey’s hit we all know and love. It’s actually almost quite the opposite. Like Cara’s song, Payne sings about a gloomier and more serious topic- a break up and wanting to be back with the girl he was with. It is his only Christmas wish and the only gift he wants.
The is featured on Payne’s debut solo album, LP1. It is a very relatable song that many people probably go through this time of year, so give it a listen if you want a good cry.
Christmas Tree Farm – Taylor Swift
Swift released a Christmas song about growing up on a Christmas tree farm and the video is so nostalgic, you may cry. It is home videos of her childhood growing up on the farm with her family. Only she could make a song about a Christmas Tree farm and have it be catchy.
She is no stranger to Christmas music. Back in her country days, Swift released a Christmas EP with covers and original songs on it.
Like It’s Christmas – the Jonas Brothers
The Jonas Brothers reunited and saved 2019. On top of getting back together, releasing a new album, some collaborations, and going on tour, the brothers have released a perfect holiday tune. They are no strangers to Christmas music, however. On a Disney Channel holiday album, the JoBros had a song, “Girl of my Dreams.”
The song is a great hit for the holidays, it makes you want to dance when you are decorating or doing fun things for the holidays. We hope there is more where that came from and they release a full Christmas album. Fingers crossed!
What is your favorite Christmas song that was released this year? Did we mention yours?
