Top 5 Katy Perry Songs That Were Never Singles
October 25th is Katy Perry’s birthday and she released three songs so far this year (“365” feat. Zedd, ”Never Really Over,” and “Small Talk”) , so now is the best time to take a look back at her amazing discography while we wait for KP5. You can’t help but think of Perry’s most popular songs when you think of her, but if you have only heard the radio singles and never listened to her albums from top to bottom. There are many amazing songs that people do not know about because they weren’t promoted like the singles were. Here are the top 5 Katy Perry Songs, in no order, that were never singles, but should have been.
Katy Perry Songs – International Smile: “Prism”
From the second this song starts, it makes you want to dance. It would have been amazing playing in clubs, school dances, and on the blaring on the radio while the windows are down. “International Smile” was said to be written about Perry’s DJ friend, Mia Moretti, who travels around the world a lot. The song makes you want to get on a plane, travel, and show off your international smile while living your best life. Plus, imagine the music video. It would have been so much fun.
Katy Perry Songs – Pendulum: “Witness”
The song that fans begged Perry to make a single, but she didn’t. “Pendulum” is one of the best songs on ‘Witness,’ yet seemed to be glossed over. Not only is the beat catchy, but the message is a good one too. ‘Life’s a pendulum. It all comes back around.’ Basically, another way to say what goes around, comes around. If you put good out into the world, good will come back to you. This song fits in perfectly with this album and it is a shame it wasn’t a single.
Katy Perry Songs – Not Like the Movies: “Teenage Dream”
It seems like almost every song on her “Teenage Dream” album was a single. It was that successful. “Not Like the Movies” is about how life is not like the movies, where it is always a happy ending- the two people always fall in love, the team always wins, everything works out in the good person’s favor, etc. It is a great ballad from Perry that deserves to be a single because it is so relatable, and would deliver an iconic music video.
By the Grace of God: “Prism”
One of her most powerful songs ever. “Prism” was the album she made after her divorce from first husband Russell Brand and fans found out she went through a hard time. “By the Grace of God” is basically about how she felt so low she contemplated taking her life, but with the strength of God, her family, and the people around her she stayed. It is a great song to listen to for anyone who suffers from mental illness. If you aren’t crying by the end of the song, you’re lying. We are so glad she decided to stay.
Power: “Witness”
What a great girl power anthem! “Power” is about taking about your power if you aren’t treated the way you should be because you’ve got that power. It is the perfect song for Perry and this era. ‘Witness’ was a purposeful pop album, with a lot of political undertones. While this song could be about power in her career, it could also be relatable to the political climate the country is in.
