It’s been a little over 3 long years since One Direction broke up and since then the members have made great careers for themselves. Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, and Zayn Malik made up 1D and stole girls’ hearts from their breakout single, “What Makes You Beautiful.” Malik left the band in 2015, about one year before the band went on hiatus. All five members of One Direction have released solo songs since the “hiatus.” Some more than others. Louis and Liam focused on being fathers and releasing music while the other members have released solo projects.
Recently, Styles and Horan have released new singles to gear up for their second solo studio albums. So let’s take a look back at their successful solo work. While we could go on and on about how much we love their albums and songs, here are the top 5 solo songs from the members of One Direction, in no particular order.
One Direction Solo Songs:
Two of Us – Louis Tomlinson
If you don’t cry during this song, you’re lying. Everyone has experienced some sort of loss in their life and since this song is about Tomlinson’s mom, many people can relate. He lost his sister and mother very close to each other, so this song must be very close to his heart. “Two of Us” is the lead single for his debut solo album, set to be released in 2020.
He has released “Back to You” feat. Bebe Rexha, “Miss You,” “Just Hold On with Steve Aoki,” as non-album singles. “Kill My Mind” was released in September as the second album single. We are excited to see what Tomlinson has planned for 2020.
One Direction Solo Songs:
Strip That Down – Liam Payne feat. Quavo
“Strip That Down” is that song that you could hear at the club or a party. It is a great dance hit and Payne’s most popular song.
He has released an EP, First Time in 2018, and 8 singles since the hiatus, including “First Time,” “Familiar,” “Get Low,” and more. Most recently, Payne released “Stack It Up,” feat. a Boogie wit da Hoodie. After the release he revealed his album is finished and will be released next year.
I Don’t Wanna Live Forever – Zayn Malik and Taylor Swift
Malik and Swift released this song for the Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack, and it was very successful. “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” is Malik’s second top 10 solo single and received great reviews from fans. It won the VMA for Best Collaboration.
As the first member to leave the band, Malik is the first one to have two solo albums, Mind of Mine and Icarus Falls. His debut single, “PILLOWTALK” is said to be about then girlfriend, Gigi Hadid.
This year, Malik was featured on the remix of the song “Trampoline” by Shaed. So far, we have not heard any news of his third album.
Nice to Meet Ya – Niall Horan
Get excited because Horan is gearing up to release his second studio album. “Nice to Meet Ya” is his latest release and if this is what the album is going to sound like, we cannot wait for it! He left clues in the video for future song titles, so watch carefully.
So far, Horan has released one album, Flicker, that was very successful. He even released the song “Finally Free” from the movie Smallfoot. Horan was featured on Julia Michaels’ song, “What a Time.”
His most famous songs, “On the Loose,” “Slow Hands,” and “This Town” are still on our playlists and we cannot wait to see what he releases next. He is set to release his second studio album, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Sign of the Times – Harry Styles
Styles’ debut single, “Sign of the Times,” is still stuck in our heads today. The music video was just as iconic as the song and won the iHeartRadio Music Award for Best Music Video.
So far, Styles has released his self-titled studio album, which sparked songs such as “Kiwi,” “Sweet Creature,” “Two Ghosts,” “Meet Me in the Hallway,” and more. This month, Styles released “Lights Up” as the lead single to his second studio album. The song has been dubbed a bi-sexual anthem, which Styles released on National Coming Out Day.
We are so excited for his second album and know he will deliver more bops.
It looks like the 1D men are releasing music and may tour in 2020. If we can’t have them all together, this is the next best thing.
