Top 5 Best TV Series Coming in 2020
A new decade is almost upon us, but how will the first year of it fair? Only TV can tell. It has become vital for us to have sufficient escapism at our fingertips. Especially if you have treated yourself to streaming sites, such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and now Disney+. And no doubt there will be plenty of shows to sneak up on us, not included in this list, that will show up and become our new favorite. Let’s take a look at the Top 5 best TV series coming on 2020.
Best TV Series 2020 – The Stand
Who doesn’t love Stephen King? And 2020 will continue that passionate affair. Based on the Book King wrote in the 70s, The Strand continues to be a fan favorite, and will certainly be an epic tale for viewers new to King’s fiction. Mixing dystopia, Biblical themes, and Whoopie Goldberg. Sadly the series will be small, and limited to 10 hours, though that is better than what we were originally going to get. The plan was for the story to be adapted into a film, but like most of Kings novels, they are incredibly complex, so 3 hours isn’t enough time to do it justice.
And King has been positive about the series “The people involved are men and women who know exactly what they’re doing.”
Best TV Series 2020 – The Boys Season 2
Amazon Prime has something special with this series, and fans are gagging for more. Including me. I need more Billy, and I’m unashamed. Season one has left so many unanswered questions, and the main one on my mind is, did the baby explode with the house. I am also definitely eagerly awaiting more of Anthony Starr, who absolutely killed it as Homelander, this season, I just hope he gets scarier and more messed up.
Best TV Series 2020 – Russian Doll Season 2
Two of the funniest women in comedy return for season 2 of Russian Doll, Amy Poehler, and Natasha Lyonne. I’m not sure what they will do this season, whether they will return to the original characters, or have a whole new cast. Whatever it turns out to be, I’m very excited about it. The first season captivated me so viciously and broke my heart more than once. Season 1 was hilarious, relatable, and comforting. It showed the fragility of life, as well as how easy it is to numb yourself to the situation, to ignore how you are, and avoid helping yourself. It also shows how important it is having people in your life, who understand and support you.
Based on the character Nimue, from the story of The Sword in The Stone. It will be an origin story of sorts, seeing the story from the young sorceress’s eyes. The young actress, Katherine Langford, from 13 reasons why will be taking on the role.
The creators of the series have a fantastic resume, especially Frank Miller, as his history glitters with Marvel and DC heroes. Based on their experience, this series should be filled with action and fantasy.
Who wants to watch some Nazi’s being hunted? I do!
Nazi’s are undeniably villainous and have been used as the antagonist in many stories. This 2020 series will be taking our hatred for them and feeding us with justice. This series will be set in the 70s and will be featuring Al Pacino and Dylan Baker. Jordan Peele has also given his seal of approval by producing the series. And has said “Its cathartic, It’s noir. It’s frighteningly relevant.”
Also, Ted Mosby will be in Hunters, so it’s basically going to be an easy-watch sitcom, perfect to relax and giggle to. What is more wholesome than hunting the bad guys?
The series will be Amazon Video, which almost guarantees it’s quality since the streaming service has gifted us with some true gems. Thank you, Amazon.
The next year is set, and these aren’t the only binge-worthy stories that will be available, I didn’t even talk about the shows that will be available on Disney +, Brooklyn 99, Umbrella Academy season 2. My new year’s resolutions are to watch these shows, and not just have Friends on repeat. I need to expand my viewing horizons, and there are almost limitless options now!
