Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and husband of Queen Elizabeth II passed away this weekend at the age of 99. Him and the queen were married for over 70 years and important figures in the United Kingdom.
Even though he was royalty, he was a family man first and he looked happiest when he was with his family. Through the many years of service there have been numerous pictures taken with his family. Here we will show you the top 5 ones.
1951 – The Queen, Prince Charles and Princess Anne
Take about cuteness! Here Prince Philip is pictured with the Queen, Prince Charles (who is next in line for the throne) and Princess Anne in 1951. This is a rare photo of the Prince being silly with his children. Prince Philip had four kids with Elizabeth, who he loved deeply. Prince Charles will be saying his father’s eulogy at his funeral on April 17th.
2015 – Braemar Gathering
In 2015, Prince Philip shared a blanket with Queen Elizabeth II at the Braemar Gathering, which they attended annually. They both look so happy. The intimate act is rare between the royal couple so when it happens it is a precious moment. It shows that even though they are the head monarchs, they are first off a loving couple who was just trying to stay warm.
2015 – Rugby World Cup
Also in 2015, a rare photo of Prince Harry and Prince Philip was taken as they shared a laugh at the Rugby World Cup. Enjoying the sport and company, the grandfather and grandson looked to be sharing in a private joke. We wonder what it was that they were discussing. Despite friction from the latest tell-all from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Philip was still Harry’s grandfather who he loved very much.
2015 – Prince George
2015 was a big year for photos in the royal family. In this one, Prince Philip is enjoying a horse and buggy ride with his great-grandson, Prince George. The photo was taken by his mom, Kate, who shares many photos of the family on holidays. This will be a great memento to have years down the road for the Prince of Cambridge.
Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice watched the races from the balcony in 2012 with their grandfather from the Royal Box on Derby Day. Even though the Princesses aren’t in the spotlight as much as the other family members, they still get to attend royal events and spend time with Prince Philip. He looks happy as can be. Princess Eugenie gave her son the middle name of Philip to honor her grandfather, but sadly he never got to meet him.
Rest in Peace to Prince Philip. Our condolences go out to his family and loved ones.
