Things to do with your dog on a rainy day

Things To Do With Your Dog On A Rainy Day

Posted on December 4, 2019

Just because it’s not a bright, sunshiny day doesn’t mean you and your pup can’t have some fun. Rainy days are some of the best days to have a dog. You have a built-in snuggle buddy! Some of these ideas are practical, but most of them are just fun things to do with your dog. Keep reading to find out how to entertain you and your dog on any rainy day that comes your way.

Just because it’s a rainy day doesn’t mean your dog will go into automatic lazy mood (as we sometimes do). You might have to tire them out before some of the next suggestions if you want your dog to have a good day. It amazes me how much energy dogs, especially puppies, have.

Sometimes, you just have to juke them out to make them run around the house like crazy. You probably know how entertaining it can be to watch them slide around the tight corners on hard floors and barely miss slamming into all of the furniture. Most of us don’t spend as much time playing with our dogs as we probably should. Your dog probably doesn’t need more toys, but they might like more time to play fetch, tug of war, or rip the stuffing out of the stuffed turkey until they find the squeaker.

Many dogs spend much of their day in a pen/kennel or loose in the house by themselves, so they will definitely appreciate some extra love and play time with their favorite humans.

Things To Do With Your Dog – Embrace The Rain

Throw on a raincoat, or get an umbrella out of the closet if your dog loves the rain. If you’re not sure, it’ll be pretty funny to find out. Trust me. My dog hated the rain and always gave me that “what did I do wrong?” look whenever I took her out to go pee in the rain. However, some dogs love to jump in puddles, run around in the wet grass, or even try to jump and catch the raindrops. Others get extremely wary about windshield wipers. Watch this video to have some laughs and see the reactions that dogs and other animals have when it rains.

Things To Do With Your Dog – Pamper Your Pup

Most pets love to be pampered. In my experience, if you use one of those super soft brushes, you run the risk of putting your dog in a temporary coma. Most dogs need a good brushing every once in a while, even if they aren’t too fond of it. Then there is the inevitable bath that is necessary after your adventures in the rain and mud outside.

They might fight you a little bit, but you can always make it up to them by giving them a treat or a nice long petting session afterwards. Plus, now they are all soft and ready for snuggles. Dogs love their little pats and hugs throughout the day, but it seems like what they really love is a long pet in all of their favorite spots…behind the ears, under their collar, and anywhere on their belly.

Have A Doggie Playdate

Are you feeling lonely on this rainy day? Your dog might feel the same way. Think about reaching out to one of your fellow dog owners to see if they are free to get together. You and your dog might both be happier with some extra company. If you don’t have any friends with dogs, find someone who is looking for a doggie buddy the next time you’re at the dog park. Bring some of your dog’s favorite toys, and give them a friend while you hangout with yours.

One Word: SNUGGLES

In my opinion, this last idea is the best one. It’s perfect for those of us who are plenty happy when it’s just us and our dogs. Catch up on some much needed bonding time with your best furry friend. Dog snuggles are the best. I dare you to disagree unless you have an unusual dog who isn’t into it (sorry, that is very sad for you).

I’ll be honest, the main reason that I want another dog is because I miss getting all snuggled up with blankets, pillows, snacks, and a good movie with my pup. Enjoy the guilt-free snuggles and laziness that rainy days provide. Indulge in some sweet snuggle time and a movie marathon with your little furball.

Hopefully this list has provided you with some new ideas for rainy days with your dog. Dogs are the best, but sometimes they need some extra love on days when they can’t run around outside in the sun for hours.
