The 2020 Grammy Awards took place on January 26th and it was a night filled with awards and performances.
Billie Ellish ruled the night by winning 5 Grammy Awards and became the youngest artist to win Album of the Year at 18 years old, beating out Taylor Swift.
Music’s biggest night paid tribute to the late Kobe Bryant, but also celebrated the biggest songs of the past year.
Here are the top 5 most memorable performances from the 2020 Grammy Awards.
2020 Grammy Awards Performances – Ariana Grande
The “Boyfriend” singer performed “Imagine,” “7 Rings,” and “thank u,next.” They were some of the biggest songs of 2019 and even scored Grande some Grammy nominations, which she sadly did not win. At the end of her performance for “thank u, next” she puts a ring in a box and closes it with tears in her eyes. It could symbolize her engagement with Pete Davidson, her song “7 Rings” or just the closing of this chapter and onto the next era.
2020 Grammy Awards Performances – Demi Lovato
Lovato made her comeback on the Grammys stage with her new song, “Anyone.” She had to restart the song because it is so emotional. The song is basically a cry for help after she overdosed last year. Many celebrities praised her performance and bravery, including ex-best friend, Selena Gomez. It was an emotional performance and a new beginning for Lovato. It was her first live performance in two years.
2020 Grammy Awards Performances – Alicia Keys and Boys II Men
Keys hosted the show and made sure that Kobe and the victims were remembered with tributes to them. It was probably a last minute addition, as his death only occurred hours before, but was still beautiful. At the end, his jerseys lit up while the room was blacked out. It was a somber day as the awards took place in the Staples Center, where Bryant played.
The brothers were nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for their comeback single, “Sucker,” but sadly did not win. However, the band performed a bit of a new unreleased song, supposedly titled,”5 More Minutes,” and their latest release, “What A Man Gotta Do.” They were dressed in Grammy gold and came with their beautiful wives. Twitter went crazy when they realized Nick had food in his teeth.
There was not a dry eye in the house during this performance. It was the first televised performance of that song. “First Man” is a song dedicated to her dad, Alejandro, who was in the audience that night. The second she stepped off the stage and walked towards her dad, the tears started to flow. If she performs this song on tour, it will be very emotional. Cabello was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Senorita” with boyfriend, Shawn Mendes.
