Some of these songs took over the charts and TikTok. Others were surprises and made us cry. And some of them made us dance.
We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year has in store. Here are the top 5 songs of the year so far.
“driver’s license” by Olivia Rodrigo
Olivia Rodrigo released her debut single, “driver’s license,” on January 8th, and slowly took over the world and the charts. The song soon became a trend on TikTok and many people speculated who the song was about (some believe it is about her “HSMTMS” co-star, Joshua Bassett). Listeners cried in their car to the song and related it to past relationships. She broke many records including being the most “non-holiday” song streamed in a day.
“Leave The Door Open” by Silk Sonic
Bruno Mars made his comeback this year with a new song and an album that will be released in the next few months. He formed a duo with Anderson .Paak called Silk Sonic. “Leave the Door Open” entered the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 4. The first performance of the song was at the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, where they adapted a 70’s aesthetic.
“You All Over Me (Taylor’s Version) (From The Vault) featuring Maren Morris” by Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift had a busy year, releasing two albums and rerecording her first six albums, due to her battle with her former label. “You All Over Me” is the first vault song off her upcoming album, “Fearless (Taylor’s Version), out April 9th. The song features country singer Maren Morris. It brought fans back to 2008 and made them cry. “You All Over Me” is one of six vault songs that fans cannot wait to hear.
“deja vu” by Olivia Rodrigo
Only three months after her massive success with “driver’s license,” Rodrigo released her second single, “deja vu,” off her upcoming album, out May 21st. Although not as gut-wrenching as her debut single, “deja vu” still puts fans in their feelings, but this time she’s stronger and clapping back. She will definitely be winning a Grammy next year. We cannot wait for the album!
“Spaceman” by Nick Jonas
No Nick Jonas didn’t break-up the Jonas Brothers again, but he did release a solo album. “Spaceman” talks about being isolated from the ones we love during this time that feels like we are on another planet. The album has that whole theme along with love. He performed this song and his second single, “This Is Heaven” for the first time when he performed double duty on “Saturday Night Live.”
