Top 5 Most Popular Disney World Rides
There are SO many great rides in Disney World, no matter what park you go to. Disney might change every couple of years, but the most popular rides stay the same. Although Disney is more than just rides, they are a big part of it. Whether you love the movies, a good theme park, or just want to experience some magic, almost everyone has experienced the Disney parks once in their life.
A survey conducted by Upgraded Points in March 2021 decided which Disney World rides are the most popular, according to 5,300 adults, 18 and older. They determined the most popular rides by state and then did an overall result. These are the top 5 most popular rides in Disney World.
Splash Mountain
In the poll, 5 percent of people ranked Splash Mountain as their favorite, coming in at number 5. The log flume was built in 1989 and is based on the 1946 movie, Song of the South. Although it is one of the most popular rides in the park (you can tell by its wait times), some park goers realized that the movie it is based on was racist and Disney decided they would make a change. The ride is to go under construction and instead be a Princess and the Frog themed ride, which was the first black princess Disney had. What makes it a favorite for most people is that it is a log flume ride, and they can cool off in the Summer heat.
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
Disney World is filled with roller coasters and 5.3 percent of people in the survey ranked Big Thunder Mountain Railroad as number 4. The roller coaster, although fast, dark, and bumpy, is designed for both kids and adults. Riders will ‘race through a haunted gold mine aboard a speeding train,’ according to Disney World’s website. Located in Frontierland, next to Splash Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad has long wait times, but is worth the wait!
Pirates Of The Caribbean
Ranking in at number 3 with 5.5 percent of the vote is Pirates of the Caribbean. Did you know the ride was around before the movies came out? Another water ride, Pirates of the Caribbean takes boat riders on a swashbuckling voyage to a long-forgotten time and place where pirates ruled the seas. After the movies came out, the ride was revamped to feature characters from the franchise, including Captain Jack Sparrow, Blackbeard, Davy Jones, and more. So be sure to sing along to “Yo Ho, Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life For Me)” and enjoy the ride.
Haunted Mansion
Number 2 is The Haunted Mansion with 10.4 percent of the vote. Also based on the movie of the same name, The Haunted Mansion has guests ride aboard a gloomy Doom Buggy for a journey through the haunted chambers. Although the ride is slow-moving and said to be safe for all ages, children might get scared at the friendly spirits that join you on the ride. Ride at your own risk and happy haunting!
Space Mountain
And coming in at the most favorite ride amongst poll takers with 11.2 percent of the vote is Space Mountain. Basically, you enter the furthest reaches of outer space in this roller-coaster ride in the dark. It is not suitable for anyone under 44 inches tall, as it does go very fast. Again, the wait times for this ride are usually very long, but if you want to beat the heat and enter outer space it is definitely worth it. It was announced in 2020, that a movie based on the ride is being adapted, just like the film, “Tomorrowland.”
