Daria Morgendoffer. The edgy, sarcastic, queen with a dry sense of humor was way ahead of her time.
Daria was a hit MTV animated show in the 90s that was both satirical, and pretty deep when you think about it.
Ms. Morgendoffer always delivered the best clapbacks to the people who were different from her like the jocks, popular girls, enthusiastic teachers, her parents, etc.
Her best friend, Jane Lane, was no different from her which is exactly why they were besties. Their sense of humor complimented each other and they both hated the same things.
Revisiting this iconic animated series, I’ve come to realize that Daria is one of the most relatable characters. Maybe this is because when this show was popular, I was a child. But now I’m almost 25 and I can totally relate with her.
In fact, she’s taught me several life lessons, and solidified my major beliefs.
#5 – Reading books is better than making friends.
At my age, I can attest to this. The thought of making new friends just exhausts me. Like Daria, I’m happy with the few that I have and really don’t need any more. However, I do need more books. Books don’t judge you, there’s never any drama that I have to worry about that’s going to affect my life.
Reading > socializing.
#4 – Pizza makes everything better
Daria praised pizza before it was cool.
But there’s a reason why loving pizza basically became a personality trait. It truly does make things better and uplifts you from a crappy day.
Bad day? Order a pizza. Got fired? Order a pizza. Cat ran away? Order a pizza.
Life happens, and in this life you can always resort to a nice pizza pie.
#3 – You can’t trust anybody
Daria said it best, everyone lies. Maybe those lies are little and may not cause harm, or maybe someone lies in order to protect the other person, but the statement is true, everyone lies.
It’s probably best to keep this thought in the back of your head when meeting new people or carrying on existing relationships, but know that the only person you can truly rely on is yourself.
And because everyone lies, that means you’ve probably taken part in fibbing too.
#2 – Falling in love is scary
Part of falling in love is risking losing that love. The thought of that may cause anxiety and what not but it’s all part of the game.
Although Daria made a point with this statement, definitely don’t let it hold you back!
#1 – Make sure to love your career
Despite what we’re told in high school, the most important life lesson from Daria, and in general, is making sure you love what you do for a living.
Too many people go the safe route at money making and come to realize they’ve wasted a huge chunk of their life getting paid to be miserable.
Also, it’s important to know that it’s never too late to do what you love or change your profession. Even if you are 40 and realize that you hate where you’re at, you can always make changes.
